About John
My professional journey with computers started answering tech support calls at T-Star Internet, the first internet company (ISP) in Marble Falls. This was back in the mid 90s when families and small businesses were getting their first computers and getting connected to the internet for the first time. I spent my days walking people through everything from setting up email accounts to understanding what a browser actually does. Those calls taught me something crucial: the best tech instruction is about meeting people exactly where they are.
I went on to college as a computer science major, but somehow ended up graduating with a degree in Biblical Studies. In the end, both fields taught me how to break down complex ideas and make them accessible, which is really what good teaching is all about.
Over the past 20 years, I've traveled to more than 20 countries, and those experiences shaped how I think about technology and education. In San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, I taught computer classes in both Spanish and English, working with students from completely different backgrounds and comfort levels with technology. Now, back in Marble Falls, teaching people how to work with AI agents for their first time.
These days I'm focused on what I believe is the most important technological shift of our lifetime: artificial intelligence. We're in a remarkable window—probably just a few years until we reach AGI—and I want to spend that time doing two things: being present with my family and helping students and adults understand AI and computers in practical, meaningful ways.
